Inauguration at the MNAC: A celebration of the Arts in Health

The Oval Room of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) will host the kick-off of Healing Arts Barcelona, a week full of events dedicated to exploring the intersection of arts and health through collaboration, dialogue and celebration. The event will present the program of activities and offer an overview of the situation of Arts in Health in Catalonia. It will be hosted by journalist Núria Casanova . We highlight:

Institutional Welcome

The official welcome event will the Catalan ministers of Health and Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya .

Inaugural conference

The inaugural lecture will be given by Helen Chatterjee, Professor of Human and Ecological Health at University College London (UCL) working across the Departments of Biosciences and Arts & Sciences. Co-founder of the Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance and advisor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Wellbeing, she is one of the leading international experts in the field of arts, health and well-being.

His interdisciplinary research has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Health Humanities Medal (AHRC-Wellcome, 2018) and he is an MBE for services to higher education and culture.

European presentation of The Jameel Arts & Health Lab— Lancet Photo Essay on the Health Benefits of the Arts, in collaboration with WHO

The MNAC will host the first presentation in Europe of The Lancet Photo Essay on Arts and Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and The Lancet journal. It will involve pioneering scientific research based on the 2019 WHO report that presents evidence on the role of the arts in improving health and well-being.

Youth Concert by the Graeme Clark Orchestra

The event will also feature a performance by the Graeme Clark Youth Orchestra, formed by children with profound deafness who have recovered their hearing with a cochlear implant.

It is an initiative of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital that demonstrates the transformative power of music and makes visible the capabilities of these children, raising awareness about hearing loss and personal improvement.
